The small print
Terms & conditions
Last updated 20 October 2026
These terms apply when you order from Pearl & Paper or use this website. Please read them before placing an order. If anything is unclear, email enquiries@pearlandpaper.co.uk and the studio will happily explain.
1. About us
Pearl & Paper is a small stationery studio in Sussex, UK, making wedding and birthday invitations, children’s organisation charts and bespoke commissions. “We”, “us” and “the studio” mean Pearl & Paper; “you” means the person placing the order.
2. Ordering
- Website shop orders. When you order through the shop on this website, you choose your design and options, add your wording and pay at checkout. A contract starts once your payment is confirmed. Everything is made to order: we email you a digital proof first and print once you approve it.
- Etsy orders. Ready-to-order pieces bought through our Etsy shop are also covered by Etsy’s own terms and the details in each listing. Where they differ, the Etsy listing takes priority for that order.
- Bespoke orders. Sending an enquiry doesn’t commit you to anything. A contract starts only once we have agreed the design, quantity, paper, price and timings with you in writing (email is fine) and you have confirmed you’d like to go ahead.
- We may decline an order, for example if we can’t meet your date or the request isn’t something we can make well.
3. Prices & payment
- Website shop prices are in pounds sterling. Delivery is added at checkout, and you’ll see the full total before you pay. Payments are taken securely by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. Discount codes must be entered at checkout and can’t be added to an order afterwards.
- For bespoke orders, your quote sets out the full price, any postage and when payment is due. Quotes are valid for 30 days unless we say otherwise.
- Bespoke work starts once any agreed payment or deposit has been received.
- If you change the design, quantity or paper after it has been agreed, we’ll let you know about any change in price or timing before carrying on.
4. Proofs & your details
- For personalised pieces we’ll send a digital proof before printing. Please check every name, date, time, address and spelling carefully.
- Once you approve a proof, we print exactly what was approved. We can’t accept responsibility for mistakes in an approved proof, though we’ll always try to help put things right at a fair cost.
- Please make sure anything you send us, such as photos, logos or wording, is yours to use. You’re responsible for having permission to use it.
5. Colours & papers
Screens show colour differently, so printed colours may vary slightly from what you see online or in a proof. Textured, pearlescent and hammered papers have natural variation, and each piece is finished by hand, so small differences between items are part of their character rather than a fault.
6. Delivery
- We post to addresses across the UK and internationally. UK delivery is free on printed Etsy orders. For website orders and international orders, delivery costs are shown at checkout or included in your quote. International orders may be charged import duties or taxes by the destination country, which are payable by the buyer. Website orders are usually made in 3–5 working days (full invitation sets take at least 5 working days). Any dates we give for printing and posting are our best estimate; we’ll keep you updated if anything changes.
- Once posted, delivery times depend on the carrier. Please allow plenty of time before your event, especially for weddings.
- Your order is your responsibility once it has been delivered to the address you gave us.
7. Cancelling & returns
- Bespoke and personalised items are made to your specification, so the usual 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply to them once they are made to your details.
- Website shop orders can be cancelled for a full refund any time before you approve your proof: just email us. Once you’ve approved your proof and printing has started, personalised orders can’t be cancelled.
- If you’d like to cancel a bespoke order before printing has started, get in touch as soon as you can. We’ll refund what you’ve paid, minus a fair amount for design work already done, which we’ll explain to you.
- Non-personalised items can be returned within 14 days of delivery, unused and in their original condition. You pay return postage unless the item is faulty.
8. Damaged or faulty items
If something arrives damaged, is faulty or isn’t what was agreed, please email us with photos as soon as possible, ideally within 7 days of delivery so we can act quickly. We’ll reprint, replace or refund as appropriate. This doesn’t affect your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
9. Designs & copyright
All designs, illustrations, photographs and content on this website and in our products belong to Pearl & Paper. Buying a printed piece gives you the item itself, not the right to copy, reproduce or resell the design. Please don’t copy our designs or images without our permission. We may share photos of finished work on this website or social media; personal details are always removed, and you can ask us not to share yours.
10. Our responsibility to you
- We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill.
- We aren’t responsible for loss that wasn’t foreseeable, for business losses, or for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as postal disruption.
- Where the law allows, our total responsibility for an order is limited to the price you paid for it.
- Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that cannot legally be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
11. Using this website
We try to keep this website accurate and available, but can’t promise it will always be error-free or online. Links to other websites, such as Etsy and Instagram, are provided for convenience; we aren’t responsible for their content. How we handle your information is explained in our privacy notice.
12. Law & changes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts. We may update these terms from time to time; the version on this page when you place your order applies to that order.
